HELSINKI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The 18th Aesthetic Group Gymnastic (AGG) World Championships concluded on Sunday in Helsinki as the home country turned out to be the biggest winner with two golds, one silver and one bronze.

The final started late Sunday in the Ice Hall, where the some 8,000 seats were all sold out. The audience gave loud applause to the 12 teams who had emerged from the preliminaries on Saturday.

Finnish team Minetit won first place in the senior competition scoring 38.90 points, 0.05 more than the silver medalists,Russian team Expressia. OVO Team, also from Finland, got the bronze.

In the junior category, Finland's Minetit Elite claimed the gold as the silver went to Finland's OVO Junior Team. Russian team Victoria had the bronze.

The 18th AGG World Championships held in Helsinki has seen a record number of gymnasts and spectators, with 57 teams from 16 countries and regions participating.

After Sunday's competition, Finland, with 11 gold medals, has the best record in the AGG World Championships in the past 18 years, and Russia came second with six gold medals, followed by Bulgaria with five.

AGG is a discipline of gymnastics based on stylized, natural total body movement. The sport involves harmonious, rhythmic, and dynamic movements performed with economical and natural use of strength.

Unlike other gymnastic disciplines, AGG requires that movements must be performed fluently, showing amplitude and variety in the dynamics and speed. A contestant group usually consists of 6 to 10 gymnasts.

While the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) was established in 2003, AGG is a discipline currently not recognized by the International Federation of Gymnastics (IFG).
